Malicious actors attack all sectors including, banks, restaurants, academic institutions, retail, utilities, hospitality, construction, and many more. Those attacks are ever-increasing as criminals continue to evolve their methods every day. In response, with the help from the FBI, our community will continue to work together to reduce the risk and help protect our organizations.

“The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Monday said there are no indications that the cyber attack targeting the Treasury Department impacted other federal agencies. The agency said it's working closely with the Treasury Department and BeyondTrust to get a better understanding of the breach and mitigate its impacts. The latest statement comes a week after the Treasury Department said it was the victim of a "major cybersecurity incident" that allowed Chinese state-sponsored threat actors to remotely access some computers and unclassified documents.” A cyberattack in December 2024 targeted BeyondTrust's systems, compromising a Remote Support SaaS API key and infiltrating some of its SaaS instances. BeyondTrust stated on January 6, 2025, that no new affected customers have been identified, while CISA emphasized the critical importance of protecting federal systems and data. China has denied allegations linking it to a breach of the U.S. Treasury Department during the attack. This attack highlights the risks of compromised API keys in cloud-based services, underscoring the importance of robust key management and monitoring.
